Reading Requirements

 

Alternate Standard classes

Please see your teacher.

 

Alternate Standard 11/12

You will read The Call of The Wild (Timeless Classics version) in order to be part of the One School, One Theme of persevering toward one’s dreams. You will also complete the chapter packet, to be collected upon returning to school (see Alt 11/12 packet link on the left).

You can find that edition from Saddleback Publishing, or by searching "Call of the Wild Timeless Classics" to find it on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, eBay, etc. If you need help finding it, please reach out to Ms. Cole: tcole@shschools.com

 


Integrated and CP classes

Read 1 book of your choosing. (See Ms. Lesniak or your teacher if you need specific recommendations.)


Honors classes

Read 2 books of your choosing.


 

AP 11 – Language and Composition

 

Read and keep a two-column journal for 2 of the following books – one fiction and one non-fiction.

The Awakening by Kate Chopin (fiction)

A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams (fiction)

The Underground Railroad  by Colson Whitehead (fiction)

Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond (non-fiction)

Outcasts United by Warren St. John (non-fiction)

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (non-fiction)

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalinithi (non-fiction)


Also read and annotate chapter 1 of Language of Composition. Books can be signed out in Ms. Lesniak’s room June 10-June 13.

 


AP 12 – Literature and Composition

Read and annotate The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and one of the following:

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Additionally, please read Chapter 1, “Thinking about Literature,” from the Literature & Composition text. Literature & Composition books may be signed out from Mr. Billman-Golemme in Room 512 between June 10 and June 13.
