One Book, One Theme: Summer Reading 2018

Reading Requirements

Integrated & CP English (all grades)

Students will read and annotate ONE book that aligns with this year's theme.


Honors English (all grades)

Students will read and annotate TWO books that align with this year's theme.


AP 11 Language & Composition

Read and annotate TWO of the following books – one fiction and one non-fiction.

  • Outcasts United by Warren St. John (non-fiction)
  • Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche (fiction)
  • The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (non-fiction)
  • The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri (fiction)
  • When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalinithi (non-fiction)

        Also read and annotate chapter 1 of Language of Composition


AP 12 Literature & Composition

Students will read and annotate THREE books:

 

  • The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

 

  • The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

  • An additional work of your choice related to identity. For suggested works, check out the lists of fiction and non-fiction titles in this guide. You may also choose a work independently and get the approval of Ms. Hamilton or Ms. Lesniak.


Alternate Standard

All ALT students 9-12 will read Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko.
